S.A.F.E.
SAFE technology is an innovation of Horizon Hobby that creates several flight modes ranging from beginner to advanced. The word SAFE is an acronym for Sensory Assisted Flight Envelope. The system aids new pilots by helping them to learn how to control their aircraft without the fear of erasing $150 out of their wallets. In beginner mode, it restrains a newbie pilot's flight envelope by limiting bank angles and returning the model to strait and level flight after the sticks are released. It also provides a panic button that will immediately return the model to level flight if the pilot feels like a crash is imminent. It rights the model at the push of a button! panic mode is active no matter what flight mode you choose: beginner, stability, agility, or whatever orientation you are in: inverted, stalling, and especially barreling towards the ground at terminal velocity. (note: SAFE only works at reasonable altitudes, so apologies to all you grass skimmers out there...)
Stability mode is very similar to beginner mode as it helps keep the model at reasonable attitudes, but with a little more leeway. in other words, it displays less restraint. Agility mode lets the pilot do flips and rolls to their hearts content and does not restrain the modeler in any way. In this mode there is no self leveling or hands free hovering, but never fear!If you should find yourself in a sticky situation, you can still smack the "Oh Crap!" switch (panic mode) and it will return to strait and level flight.
AS3X
AS3X should NOT be confused with SAFE! Although they might perform similar actions, they do not mean the same thing. SAFE acts as a trainer for beginners and insurance for some of the more experienced of us.
AS3X, on the other hand, smooths out our flight experience by virtually eliminating turbulence and other "bad stuff."
AS3X basically works as a three axis gyro to help make MQX class planes (or quads) feel MUCH bigger in wind, or other adverse weather conditions. It smooths out the flight to make way for SAFE, giving almost every airframe a good, locked in feel.
